Create Post Titles That Create Traffic

In this video, Aaron Wall of SEOBook talkes about how to create Google and SEO-friendly page titles. Page/Post titles are one of the most important aspects of any SEO startegy because people have a tendancy to filter information via headlines and ‘snippits.’ With so much noise and information-clutter out there, it is almost necessary to to make quick decisions about what kind of content we choose to absorb.
This is, in part, one of the reasons why your post or article titles need to separate themselves from the pack if you want to encourage people to read your content. Conveying a sense of differentiation from the other titles in the search results allows you to stand out from the crowd and can create a sense of authority in the eyes of those scanning the ‘headlines.’ A couple of points to keep in mind:
  •  Use keywords wisely. You want to be able to utilize your targeted keywords in your titles without comming across as being too spammy.  Internet-users are becoming increasingly savvy and can sniff out the ”keyword stuffers.”
  • Watch your length. Length of page titles is important. Google currently displays the first 65 characters so anything beyond that, will not show up in the search results. If you do go over the 65 character limit, just make sure that both your targeted keywords and message being conveyed in the title, display in the SERP.
  • Make your titles interesting. The next time your are getting ready to write a blog post, research some of the related titles from your competition. See what sticks out and what doesn’t. It will go along way to helping you create page titles that readers want to click on.
