Blog Invisible? Submit it to the ‘Big 3′

In order to get traffic to your blog it needs to be indexed by the major search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. One of the fastest ways to have your site indexed is to tell the search engines that you exist. There are many ways to do this, with many opinions on what the best strategies are. My opinion; there is definitely more than one way to get your blog noticed by the search engines.
One step that you need to do with your blog - which will get zero debate from any experienced Webmaster - is to submit it directly to the Big 3. This is how you essentially tell them, “Hey, look at me! I exist!”

Search engines use Web bots and spiders to crawl the content of pages in order to understand what the pages are about. Once a page has been crawled, it is filed away (indexed) in a massively infinite and virtual file cabinet; ready to be retrieved when looked for. It is this indexing that allows search engines like Google to retrieve relevant pages from your blog, and display them in the search engine results page (SERP). If your blog has not been indexed, as far as the search engines are concerned, you don’t exist.

So how do I get my blog indexed by search engines?
I suggest that one of the first things you do when launching your blog is submit it to the Big 3 so they know you exist ASAP. Below are instructions for each one.

Google
1. Sign up for a Google account if you do not already have one.
2. Sign in to Google Webmaster Tools and enter your blog’s URL.
3. Authenticate your blog by copying the meta tag given, and pasting it into your blog’s home page. Next!

Yahoo
1. Sign up for a Yahoo account if you do not already have one.
2. Go to Yahoo Site Explorer and enter your blog’s URL.
3. Authenticate your blog ownership
Once you authenticate your blog, it should take Yahoo about 24 hours to verify ownership. Next!

Bing
1. Sign up for a Bing account if you do not already have one.
2. Go to Bing Webmaster Center and enter your blog’s URL.
3. Authenticate your blog ownership. Done!

Keep in mind that this is just the beginning. Submitting your blog to Blog Directories is another way to both encourage search engines to find your blog and generate backlinks; something Google puts great emphasis on when developing a Websites’ PageRank.
